Choquequirao is a huge archaeological complex still under cleaning and restoration process located in the surroundings of the Salkantay sacred mountain 6’271m. (20’569ft.) and the Apurimac River canyon. You will enjoy amazing mountain scenery as well as lots of Andean flora and fauna.
In the time of the Incas, it was united and in communication with Machu Picchu by a complex network of trails. The reasons are many: The fantastic nature with valleys, snow-capped mountains and great variety of plants, birds and animals.

Unknown to many people, Peru is home to another lost city of equal importance besides the famous Machu Picchu, known as Choquequirao or “Cradle of Gold” in local Quechua. We introduce you our Trek Choquequirao Inca Lost City near Cusco Peru.
Choquequirao is believed to yield similar importance to that of Machu Picchu, having served the same religious, political and agricultural functions. Yet, despite being larger than Machu Picchu, Choquequirao remains seemingly untouched and remote – drawing only about 30 people a day during the high season compared to almost 2’500 people a day at Machu Picchu. Nonetheless, its popularity is expected to rise.
We start our hike by climbing for two and a half hours towards Abra Capuliyoc 2’750m. (9’020ft.), where we can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the Apurimac River Canyon
We descend for two more hours towards Chiquisca, where we set our camp and spend the night
Day 2 - Chisquisca to Choquequirao
Head down towards Rosalina Beach, which will take approximately an hour
We then cross the Apurimac River and start climbing towards Santa Rosa, zigzagging up a steep slope. This climb will approximately two hours
We continue our hike with a sustained climb for the next two and a half hours until we reach our lunch spot in Marampata. From here we walk for another two hours until we reach the archaeological complex of Choquequirao 3’103m. (10’178ft.), where we will set up camp and enjoy some free time to explore the terraces and buildings
Day 3 - Explore Choquequirao
Enjoy a complete guided tour of the Choquequirao complex: we will visit the high parts (Hanan) and the lower parts (Urin), as well as some areas that are still covered in wild foliage and ready for restoration
We have the full day to explore the site, relax and enjoy the surrounding views
Day 4 - Choquequirao to Rosalina Beach
We start our walk back towards Santa Rosa, where we have lunch. We then continue descending for another two hours until we reach Rosalina Beach where we might have time to take a refreshing dip in the waters of the Apurimac River.

Day 5 - Rosalina Beach to Cusco
We leave camp after breakfast to start the two to three hour climb to Chiquisca, and then to Abra Capuliyoc where we will stop for lunch nearby
In the afternoon, we continue on our two hour return route to Cachora. Our private transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. Estimated arrival time is around 9.00pm
