Choquequirao is believed to yield similar importance to that of Machu Picchu, having served the same religious, political and agricultural functions. Yet, despite being larger than Machu Picchu, Choquequirao remains seemingly untouched and remote – drawing only about 30 people a day during the high season compared to almost 2’500 people a day at Machu Picchu.
